New MPU for Orong Diary Group Inaugurated

 

On 25th August, 2014, the new Milk processing cum collection center was inaugurated by Hon'ble Dasho Dzongdag of Samdrupjongkhar. The Orong dairy Group was established in 2009 with the motive produce butter and cheese as source of income generation. Until now the group was processing the products in one of the Government quarter as they could not effort to build new MPU. With the generous support and importance given to community from the Geog administration the sum of Nu.0.50 million was allocated for the construction of the MPU.

The new MPU is centrally located and established in 10 decimal of Land which group had bought at sum of Nu.0.150 from the private land owner. People are positive and happy that they could established new MPU which will be their main asset and for decade to come it is source of income for Orong community.

 

The event was begun with the ceremonial Marchang before the opening of the MPU. The Gup welcome Dasho Dzongdag and team to grace this important occasion. The secretary of the Group informs briefly the progress so far achieved of the group to the floor. At present the groups have total members of 49 in total. He informed that many are now willing to join as new members and contribute fresh milk to the MPU.

The Dasho informed the gathering that he was impressed and satisfied with the tremendous progress made by the group. However, Dasho inform that the new membership should be allowed and workout within community to find out ways and means to address adequately on the issue of new entry. Dasho said that unlike other Dzongkhag, Samdrupjongkhar have no problem in marketing fresh milk across a broader state of Assam. The demand is still high. He informed the gathering that by selling fresh milk across border it is solving the INR shortage and contributes to the import substitution also. Dasho also warned group to maintain clean milk production with proper hygiene in place like proper cattle sheds, dung management and feeding regimes.

Today, the group is producing more than 400 liters of fresh milk daily and marketed to the Samdrupjongkhar municipality and across the broader town, India. The production and progress till date from 2009-2014 is represented in graphic form which shows significant increase in both production and income of the group.
