His Excellency, the Lyonchhen visits Orong Gewog

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay spoke to the people of Orong gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar. His Excellency was accompanied by Lyonpo Mingbo Dukpa and Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk on this visit.

Meeting over 200 people at Orong Central School, Lyonchhen spoke on the extraordinary significance of the present year. He asserted that the people in the Kingdom were blessed to have benevolent and caring monarchs as our Kings. He said that with the Birth of the Gyalsey, the people must for all time reiterate their commitments to work hard and take our beloved nation to newer heights.

The Prime Minister further emphasized on the issue of childbirth at homes. He stressed that women must avail the services of the hospitals/BHUs for safest delivery of their children. He encouraged the families to ensure that every woman in labor is taken to hospitals/BHUs because they provide special after-birth care which will go a long way in ensuring the health of both mother and child. Lyonchhen said that for a country whose average life expectancy rate is 70 years, even a single infant/maternal death is unacceptable.

Lyonchhen informed the people on the measures the government is exploring to improve rural livelihoods. He requested the people to make best use of services such as power-tillers, green houses and electric fences to increase their agricultural yield.

On the way to Trashigang from Samdrup Jongkhar, Lyonchhen and the delegation visited the Chokyi Gyatso Institute in Dewathang.
